Magic The Gathering Ruling Help?
Would Festival of the GuildPact (Prevent the next X damage that would be dealt to you this turn…draw a card.) and Bond of Agony (As an additional cost to play Bond of Agony, pay X life
Each other play loses X life) count as an instant win? by that i mean could I play Feastival and prevent say 20 damage then play Bond of Agony to inflict that amount on my opponents? I haven’t played magic in forever and recently started up again, and i am confused…
No, it won’t. Propz for trying, though.
Damage counts as loss of life, but not the other way around. So, you can prevent damage, but you can’t prevent loss of life from other means (such as paying Bond of Agony’s additional cost, losing life from the effect of another spell, etc.) Festival of the Guildpact can prevent damage from creatures and from spells (spells that say Deal X damage to target player, not lose X life or pay X life.)
If you want an instant win, try generating infinite mana and making your opponent take damage with Fireball or Conflagerate or Profane Command or something.
There was a time in the ancient past where this may have worked, but it is no longer. (I think this was why the old cards that required you to pay life as an additional cost had such long texts that always included “other sources can’t be used to redirect or prevent this loss of life” in them.
